Halq or Taqsir

After completing Sa’i, it is necessary to perform Halq or Taqsir to end the state of Ihram. If you don’t perform either one, you will remain in the state of Ihram. Halq refers to shaving the head while Taqsir means cutting a small amount of hair.

If you have no hair, run a razor over your scalp to fulfill the ritual. For Taqsir, you must cut a minimum of a fingertip length of hair from all areas where hair is present. You can either cut your hair yourself or have someone else do it for you.

Women are not allowed to perform Halq. They only need to cut a length equal to the tip of their finger from the ends of their hair, regardless of how short their hair is.

With the completion of Halq or Taqsir, you’ll exit the state of Ihram. As soon as your Ihram ends, you’ll be free from the associated restrictions such as the use of perfumes, cutting nails, engaging in marital relations, etc. You may now change into regular clothes. However, if your Umra is part of Hajj, marital relations will remain forbidden until Tawwaf al-Ziyarah but other Ihram restrictions will be lifted.

Congratulations on Completing Your Umra!

Congratulations, you’ve completed your Umra. Instead of feeling proud of your achievement, keep repenting, thanking Allah for the privilege, and constantly make duas that your Umra gets accepted.

Leave the Haram

As you leave Masjid al-Haram, step out with your left foot and recite the following Dua, as was the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ when leaving the mosque:

بِسْمِ اللهِ وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَّامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إَنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Bismi llāhi, wa ṣ-ṣalātu wa s-salāmu ‘ala rasūli llāh. Allāhumma innī as’aluka min faḍlik.

In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask of you from Your bounty.
